Hosted by Remobi alongside the Women in Tech Power Network, the afternoon featured talks, WiTPN member recognition and plenty of face-to-face connection, joined by WiTPN founder Professor Sue Black OBE and members of the Remobi team.
Here’s what came out of the room.
The further women progress in technology, the fewer women they may find around them. Remote working can shrink that circle further.
Lauren Hargreaves kept hearing the same thing from women across the Remobi community: even at senior level, they wanted more opportunities to connect with people who understood their experiences.
So Lauren and Sandra Nocun created Changemakers.
On 4 September, those conversations moved from screens to a room in London, bringing women together to share experiences, make connections and build the kind of network that can become harder to find as careers progress.
“As a company we understand that every industry is a boys’ club until it isn’t, and Changemakers is our way to disrupt the boys’ club and highlight the important women within the tech world, their contributions, and how they can shape the world of tech.”
Peter Baros, Senior Community Manager at Remobi, joined Professor Sue Black OBE, founder of the Women in Tech Power Network, to tackle what it takes to make tech more representative: stronger networks, greater visibility and more women opening doors for one another. Sue also presented the Women In Tech Power Network member awards, one of several moments recognising the community on the day.
That’s the role Changemakers is here to play. Bringing women together, making their contributions visible and ensuring fewer have to navigate their careers without a strong peer network.
The afternoon closed the way any first birthday should, with cake, a toast and a room full of people who had helped build the thing they were celebrating.
For a community that works across remote and distributed teams, getting people into the same room changes the relationship.
As Sandra Nocun, Client Engagement Executive at Remobi, put it:
“So many people here I’ve only met online, so it’s amazing to see everyone.”
Conversations moved beyond the screen. Existing connections became real-world relationships, new ones formed, and women with different roles and backgrounds could learn directly from one another.
That’s what turns a network into a community.
Different backgrounds and career paths were represented across the room. For Izzy Hibbert, Senior Talent Acquisition Specialist at Remobi:
“Today I had the opportunity to meet amazing women in the industry with different backgrounds and different histories, and it just shows you that you can change your direction in life.”
Careers in tech don’t follow one route. Seeing how other women have changed direction, moved into new specialisms or built careers from different starting points makes those possibilities more visible.
The more routes into tech we share, the more routes others can see for themselves.
The event also launched Changemakers: Women in Data & AI, extending the community into an area reshaping technology teams and businesses.
For Remobi, the commitment starts inside the business. As Izzy Hibbert said:
“We’re a growing business, we’re 50% women-led, and it’s important that we maintain this initiative.”
Changemakers: Women in Data & AI takes that commitment into the next chapter, with more to come from the new community.
Women In Tech Power Network has spent its first year with a clear purpose: give more women in tech the network, support, visibility and connections to go further.
Now, with Changemakers: Women in Data & AI, that community is growing too.
